Adjust the settings, and your device can save several tens of minutes or even an entire hour of work without recharging.
5 tips to increase laptop battery life / photo ua.depositphotos.com
Laptop manufacturers are now designing their gadgets smaller and thinner, which leads to restrictions on the amount of battery placed in the case. Some of them completely forget about autonomy and battery life.
In this article, we will talk about five simple and effective ways to make your laptop last longer, using the example of a Windows 11 laptop. But a good half of them are universal.
Adapting display settings
Everyone knows that the display uses the most charge in laptops – the higher the brightness, the faster the battery runs out. Therefore, when the laptop is not connected to the network and running on battery power, you need to change the display settings. This can be done in two ways, namely:
Using the screen brightness down key in row F (the keys that are located in the keyboard above the number row) Through the Start menu, Settings, System, Display and adjusting the slider labeled Brightness.
Battery saver activation
In the new Windows 11, there is an option to save battery power. This mode, among other things, reduces the brightness of the screen, reduces the number of applications running in the background, incoming notifications and other functions that consume the battery.
The system, as a rule, activates this feature automatically when the charge level drops to a critically low one. But it can be turned on manually at any time. To do this, click “Start” → “Settings” → “System” → “Power and battery” and in the “Battery saver” section, switch to “Turn on now”.
You can also use auto-on with the “Always” option and activate the “Decrease the brightness of the screen in battery saver mode” option. After these manipulations, the rate of full discharge of the laptop will decrease and the device will work longer.
Setting the background activity of applications
Windows operating systems have always been famous for the huge number of applications running in the background. All of them need a charge to work, however, importantly, not all applications are used while working offline.
Therefore, it is better to disable them in the “Battery usage” section, which is located along the path
“Start” → “Settings” → “System” → “Power and Battery”
Then click on the icon with three dots and select “Manage background activities”. There it is necessary to limit the operation of applications in the background with the “Never” parameter.
Downgrade video quality
Built-in applications in Windows 11 can independently adjust the quality of the video being played, depending on whether the laptop is currently running on mains or battery power. This approach allows you to reduce the load on the system and on the hardware components of the device, and therefore save battery.
To enable this feature, go to
“Start” → “Settings” → “Applications” → “Video Playback”
Then select “Play videos with low extensions when running on battery”.
System power setting
Power modes limit the performance of laptop hardware. The capabilities of the processor, memory and other components depend on which mode is selected. If the economy mode is enabled, the memory and processor will operate at the optimal frequency and not exceed a certain level. Thus, the excess charge will not be used up for power that is no longer needed.
In order to enable this mode, you need to go to
“Start” → “Settings” → “System” → “Power and battery” and in the “Power mode” section, set “Max. power efficiency”.
After connecting the laptop to the network, you must return the setting that was set before.
