Geraldo Alckmin, Lula and Paulinho da Força during the Solidarity event – Ricardo Stuckert/PT
Former President’s Allies Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva spent the last few days preparing the ground for the official launch of their presidential pre-candidacy, scheduled to take place in a mega event this Saturday morning, in the north zone of the capital of São Paulo. Two events, according to an interlocutor close to Lula, served as a kind of rehearsal for tomorrow’s act: the visit made on Thursday morning to the Sumaré region and Lula’s speech on the same day at Unicamp. The balance, according to allies, is one of celebration.
The assessment of those closest to the PT is that he hit the tone of the attacks on President Jair Bolsonaro, which should be intensified at tomorrow’s event. Just in case, the plan is for Lula to stick to a rehearsed speech tomorrow. But anyone who knows PT knows that he loves to deviate from the script.
Lula is expected to make a kind of manifesto about what he intends for an eventual government, but not along the lines of the “Letter to Brazilians”, which helped to pave the way for his arrival in the Planalto in 2002.
The plan is to seek a voter in the center, supported by the symbolism of the ticket sealed with the former toucan Geraldo Alckmin. It is hoped that the speeches of both will serve as a kind of call to other parties and politicians who belong to this field and who can join the campaign.
