The president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said this Thursday, 5th, that his party will hire a company to audit this year’s elections. The governor also adopted a tone of threat to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), insinuating that private analysis can complicate the Electoral Court.
“I advance here, first hand. I was with the president of the party, the PL, a few days ago and, as it is in the electoral legislation, we will hire a company to audit the elections, ”he said during his weekly broadcast on social networks. “Now, let me make it clear, I even advance it to the TSE. This audit will not be done after the elections,” he added.
“Once she is hired, the company starts working. In 30, 40 days, she may come to the conclusion that, given the documentation she has at hand, given what has been done so far to better have elections free from any suspicion of external interference, she can say that it is impossible audit and not accept to do the work. Look how far we are going,” Bolsonaro added.
It is worth mentioning that the TSE audits electronic voting machines before and after voting with the participation of political parties. Still, the president continues to attack the Brazilian electoral system, even without evidence. Following the broadcast, the Chief Executive quipped: “Since polls say that Mr. Lula has 40%, Lula will win. So I want to guarantee Lula’s election with this process here”.
Bolsonaro’s new offensive, who was accompanied by the Chief Minister of the Institutional Security Office, General Augusto Heleno, takes place on the same day that the Minister of Defense, General Paulo Sérgio Nogueira, asked the TSE to disclose the military’s doubts about the elections and at a time of new tension with ministers of the Court, such as Edson Fachin and Alexandre de Moraes.
