Known for drawing crowds to his Masses, Father Reginaldo Manzotti, 53, has also become a digital phenomenon. This week, the priest reached the mark of half a billion views on his YouTube channel.
Created in 2014, the channel presents numbers that place it as the most watched priest in Brazil on the platform: more than 111 million hours of transmission, 13 million shares and 8.7 million comments. Reginaldo has 3.18 million subscribers, above those who are also veterans Marcelo Rossiwith 2.77 million, and Fabio de Melowhich has 1.83 million subscribers on its channel.
In conversation with the column, Reginaldo explains how he uses social networks to “do good”. “When I say doing good, I mean influencing people with values. This concerns leaders, the government, families. We are coming out of a critical phase, with the world still sick. People are fragile, needing direction. My role is to direct them to values that give hope. None of the posts are meant to create polarization or aggression. We need to overcome all forms of intolerance and racism”, says he, who recently launched his 25th book, “O Poder da Cura”, and has already sold 6.3 million copies.
The priest comments that he is always connected to the competition video. “I’m always watching everything I can. The language is undoubtedly different”, he continues, who, in addition to being a youtuber, is also a musician, composer and radio presenter.
Regarding the mixture of politics and religion in the country, the priest guarantees not to follow this behavior. Would you take up public office? “Never. If I happen to be a candidate for something, and I am, it is a candidate for holiness. I have no interest in holding any public office in politics,” he says categorically.
