Senator Valdir Raupp, vice president of the PMDB, became a defendant in a lawsuit at the STF Waldermir Barreto/Agência Senado/VEJA
Last Friday, the Second Class of the STF concluded the virtual trial and acquitted former emedebista senator Valdir Raupp in a Lava-Jato lawsuit.
The ministers accepted an appeal by Raupp’s defense and freed the former parliamentarian of allegations of corruption and money laundering in the Petrobras scheme.
The former senator and a former assistant to him had been convicted by the Supreme Court in 2020. Raupp was sentenced to 7 years and 6 months in prison and the former advisor to 5 years and 10 months.
Edson Fachin voted for Raupp’s conviction and the consequent rejection of his appeal, while Justices André Mendonça, Gilmar Mendes and Ricardo Lewandowski understood that Raupp could not be convicted in the case. Nunes Marques closed the virtual trial also voting for acquittal.
