the former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) will be this Sunday, May 1st, at Charles Miller square, in front of the Pacaembu stadium, in a Labor Day event convened by seven unions, including the two largest in the country, CUT and Força Sindical – all of them support the candidate’s candidacy. PT to the presidency.
The expectation is that the event, which starts at 10 am, will bring together tens of thousands of people also due to the number of musical shows planned. Among the attractions will be singers Daniela Mercury and Leci Brandão and rappers Dexter and KL Jay (Racionais MC’s).
In addition to being the biggest act with Lula’s presence in the pre-campaign, it will also be the most open of all. Until now, PT has been limited to meetings in more controlled environments, with audiences made up exclusively of sympathizers, such as recent visits to MTST (homeless) and MST (landless) settlements and meetings with indigenous people, artists, intellectuals and union leaders. On April 19, the PT also visited the Heliópolis favela, one of the largest in the city of São Paulo.
In addition to being an act of support for Lula, the demonstration in Pacaembu will also be against President Jair Bolsonaro (PL). The motto of the protests will be ‘Employment, rights and democracy’. “May 1st needs to be a milestone in the fight to ‘outside Bolsonaro’”, says Sérgio Nobre, president of CUT, who during the week led pamphlets around the city calling the population to the act.
The protests by the trade union centrals should be repeated in the main capitals of the country. In Rio de Janeiro, the concentration will also be at 10 am at Aterro do Flamengo – presentations by several popular funk singers are planned.

Lula’s biggest public exhibition will take place on the same day that Bolsonaro supporters will also be on the streets of several cities in the country. In the case of São Paulo, they will be very close, by the way: the Bolsonarista concentration, scheduled for 2 pm, is scheduled for the vicinity of Masp, on Avenida Paulista, less than three kilometers from where Lula will be.
Federal deputy Daniel Silveira (PTB-RJ), who became the pivot of a new controversy involving Bolsonaro and the Federal Supreme Court, is expected at the demonstration in Paulista. Sentenced by the STF to eight years and nine months in prison for threats to the Court, he won a pardon from Bolsonaro, in a gesture that Bolsonaristas try to sell as a defense of freedom of expression and against the “authoritarianism” of the Supreme Court.

This will be one of the main mottos of the Bolsonarista demonstrations across the country. The president has not been involved so far in the summons, but it is not ruled out that he will participate in the act in Brasília.
Traditionally, on the 1st of May, the streets were always occupied by unionism and demonstrations related to workers’ rights and claims, but that changed last year, when Bolsonarism took to the streets in several cities in the country to defend the president.
