Amazon: a government that does not give a truce Istock/Disclosure
The government of Jair Bolsonaro has just launched a plan, in the public consultation phase, to grant private companies 24 public forests. The concession for “sustainable forest management” would come into effect in 2023.
Among the 24 public forests eligible for concession, there are 18 National Forests (Flonas) and six portions of non-destined land, located in the states of Amazonas, Pará, Amapá, Rondônia, Roraima, São Paulo, Santa Catarina and Paraná.
“Public forests listed in the Annual Forest Grant Plan total 4.89 million hectares, with an estimated manageable area of 4.15 million hectares and estimated production of up to 2.9 million cubic meters of wood per year”, says the government.
